I was in the Museum of American Art in Washington DC when I came upon this statue called Greek Slave by Hiram Powers. The statue depicts a Greek women, who was captured and stripped by a Turkish soldier. The work calls to mind the savage years of the Greek Revolt, which had great support from the American public, as well as the issue of slavery in America. The work was also the frist nude statue to gain wide acceptance in the United States and Powers received many requests for copies.
