This article summarizes the latest actions the U.S. has taken towards their goals of defeating ISIS in Syria and all around the region. The Obama Administrations primary objective is considered a “train-and-equip” mission in that the U.S. will be deploying troops in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to help train “moderate Syrian fighters” of whom are opponents of ISIS and are currently at war with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. This piece makes clear that although the Obama Administration would like to see the Syrian president defeated along with ISIS, their primary target in the training of these moderate soldiers are to train them for the soul purpose of defeating ISIS.
